Youngstock Focus: New Drench Products

Well most of you are done with the first 3 weeks of mating, which seems for most to have gone exceptionally well this year! If you have not quite reached 90% of you herd submitted now is the time to weigh up the options you have to get cows mated ASAP. Please give us a call if you would like to talk it through. Calves are now at various stages of weaning. Dairy NZ have some good resources on when to wean: the take homes for me are weigh your calves and measure how much they are eating (no guesswork!). Remember we have technicians, weigh platforms and wand on standby to give you a hand!

Weaning is a stressful time and calves still have undeveloped immunity so are very susceptible to parasitism from both gastronintestinal parasites and coccidiosis. The result can have an impact on their growth rates.

Alleva animal health have developed a world-first formula specifically designed for weaned calves called Turbo initial. The oral drench provides worm parasite coverage, as well as helping to protect against coccidiosis. This provides protection during the vulnerable period after calves come off their coccidiostat-treated meal onto pasture. Cost is approx. $2.60 per 100kg calf (excl GST).

Turbo Initial is part of a new Turbo range of drenches. The Turbo pour on is a new drench combination with extended safety margins and potency levels compared to other combinations.
